Lebanon, TN - Thomas Carney, age 86, of Lebanon, TN, passed away on June 24, 2025, at home surrounded by family after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). The Funeral Service is 2 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2025, in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon, TN. Reverend Steve Delashmit will officiate and music by Philip Tatum. Interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery will follow the service. Pallbearers: Caleb Fesler, Ted Brickenden, Terry Alexander, William Wynns, David Scott, and Donnie Clark. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 4-7 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m.

Thomas Ray Carney was born in Cheatham County, TN, to Iva Love Anderson Carney and Thomas A. Carney. He enlisted in the Tennessee National Guard at the age of 17 and served 30 years as a full-time technician, 42 years total, retiring as Master Sergeant. All the while, his faithful companion, encourager in chief, and wife, Mary Ellen Dozier Carney was by his side. They were members of Laguardo Cumberland Presbyterian Church where Thomas served as an Elder.

Thomas was the ultimate do-it-yourselfer. He approached every task fearlessly and persevered until completion. A talented mechanic, he could fix or create anything. His daughters thought that he was Superman. Raising a vegetable garden and maintaining the perfect yard and home were fulfilling missions.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Ellen Carney; daughters: Sandra Carney and Lisa (Ted) Brickenden; grandchildren: Caleb (Britney) Fesler, Ethan (Katherine) Fesler, Victoria (Garrett) Bondurant, and Chandler Brickenden; siblings: Charlene Anderson, Billie Magill, and Charles Carney; four great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family. He will also be sorely missed by his kitty daughter, Penelope. He is preceded in death by parents, Iva and Tommy Carney, sisters, Joyce Walker Hicks and Doris Anderson, and brothers, Elmo Carney and Max Carney.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Thomas' love of country and military be honored through donations to Tunnels to Towers or Wounded Warriors.
