Lebanon, TN - Robert "Ken" Condit Jr, of Lebanon, TN, formerly of Bell Acres and Fair Oaks, PA, passed away on Friday, April 4th, at his home with members of his loving family by his side. Ken was 70 years old.
He was born in Sewickley, PA on September 14, 1954 and grew up in Bell Acres. Ken was a graduate of the 1972 Class of Quaker Valley High School, in Leetsdale, PA and Parkway West Technical School. In 1977, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Powner of Fair Oaks, and together they enjoyed a life full of family, love, laughter and faith. His greatest accomplishment in life was as a father: raising his daughters, Kristin and Kelsey and always supporting whatever endeavor they chose to participate in. But his greatest role was being "Bub" to his grandson, Brody Vincent Condit.
His work career started at the ARMCO Steel Plant in Ambridge, where he was a millwright on the Hot Side. He truly enjoyed his work at the Plant and took pride in the products made there. He was one to always put in a hard days work. When the mill closed, Ken started with Ryan Homes in Pittsburgh. Over a thirty year career, he spanned many titles and varying rolls; his favorite of which was a Production Trainer, where he worked closely with new hires and developed their talents to build a great home. He received many awards and was recognized for his talents including his entry into the Master Builder Society.
Ken lived his life giving back to the community-selfless was his middle name. He started as a junior volunteer fireman at the age of 14 with the Bell Acres VFD and went on to become Fire Captain, then Fire Chief for many years. During his time in Bell Acres, he volunteered on the Water Commission, working to bring public water to Bell Acres and developing a First Responder's Group within the Fire Department to aid with quick response to non-fire emergencies in the Bell Acres Community. Later in life, he continued as a volunteer Fire Fighter for the Fair Oaks VFD.
His move to middle TN was prompted by a job transfer from Ryan/NVR homes. It brought him to his dream of a farm life - one with lots of hard work, but plentiful return. He enjoyed tractor chores with his grandson, raising chickens and horses and having a large garden.
He retired from Ryan/NVR Homes in May, 2017. He came out of retirement to do part time work for Wilson Bank and Trust, in their Real Estate Division. During his TN life, he volunteered with the Wilson County Senior Citizen Awareness Network where he and Barb would visit senior citizens to check on their well being. He developed many endearing friendships in that roll.
At his church, St. Stephen Catholic Community in Old Hickory, he served as a Sacristan, Funeral Sacristan and an active member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was a Fourth Degree Knight.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara Powner Condit, his daughters Kristin (Ernie Kratsas), Kelsey (Craig Singer) grandson, Brody Vincent Condit and his beloved golden retriever Winnie. Also surviving are his sister, Betty Aquino, Cranberry Twp, PA and his brother, Bill Condit (Tami) of Freehold, NJ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Betty Condit, sisters Roberta Klacik and Connie Bilonick and Connie's husband, Greg Bilonick; beloved brother-in-law to Deacon, Tom Klacik, Baden, PA, Elly Kost, Freedom, PA, Micky Powner (Sally), Santa Rosa, CA, Cindy Powner, Fruit Heights, UT, Tom Powner (Janis) Virginia Beach, VA and Bob Powner (Lisa) Bell Acres, PA. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at Divine Redeemer Parish, St. James Catholic Church, Sewickley, PA on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 10:30 AM, followed by a luncheon. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Community in Old Hickory, TN on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Visitation beings at 9 AM and the Mass begins at 11 AM, followed by a luncheon.
